Mukah : A Silent Heaven Of Sarawak

Assalamualaikum wbt

My dear Kaklong,

Mukah is about 3 hours drive away from Sibu. It is located right in the middle between Sibu and Bintulu. So no worries. You may come back home easily since domestic airports are around. In the northen part of Mukah, you may go swimming in the South China Sea. Hence, most of the Mukah people live up their lives as fishermen, selling ‘umai’ and other fish or prawn based products. Have you ever tried birdnest? Oh, you never tasted it, right? Later in Mukah, you may try it, dear. Birdnesting is one of their very few economic activities. The other thing is Sago. Still remember the TV program we watched 16 years ago on TV Pendidikan about Sago production? Yeah. They used legs to produce them. Hehe. Ok. Kidding. That was 16 years ago. Nowadays, they use modern technologies to produce them until the packaging is done.

Most of the residents are Melanau. They are Muslims and have their own Melanau tongue. Therefore, I strongly suggest you to learn their language to easily marry a Melanau guy ease your days in Mukah. One more thing about the people, they are courteous and a smile is never really far from the surface.

Oh, not to forget, there’s a nice pier in Mukah where fishermen come and go in the morning and evening. It is located right in front of the Mukah Market. I think, you can repolish your past time activity that you left long ago, hang out at pier or jetty (I suggest you to read this entry again. Huhu).

I hope you will survive in Mukah. Don’t worry. I will surely pay you a visit. I’ve never been there yet. So I hope, you will expect my arrival around July, alright? I am almost 95% sure that you won’t be sent to some rural areas in Mukah. According to the information given by my trusted friends, such places in Mukah are approachable easily by 4-wheel drives. Thus, I consider that they are not that rural anymore since no boats or JKR ferry are needed. So, please give me a big smile when I come to your place, ok? Oh, I hope you are not going to put high expectation about Mukah. Everything is possible. Just remember what ayah had told us: He always knows how to put things in proper place. Perhaps, you are just one great human being to have this great opportunity to be sent in such place. Hey, after all, Mukah isn’t that bad, no?

I hope that you feel relief reading my lines here. In fact, the title tells everything already. Come what may, I know you will survive, Kaklong =)

Note: I spent most of my time on the bed. Even I prayed on the bed too.

Mukah antara tempat yg sy sangat suka semasa kesana dahulu. Cuma perjalanan dari Sibu kalau naik kapalterbang Twin Otter agak mencabar.

Nampak segala macam besi dan angin masuk ikut kapalterbang kecil tu. Kena timbang badan dan barang sekali masa check in.

Cakap Melanau kamu awal2 fail dah. Heheh. Best ke umai? Hehe. KS belek2 gambar tadi, benda tu mentah kan tapi dicampur dgn air asam, perahan limau semua tu kan? Hehe. Kalau KS, KS boleh tahan kot. Tekak KS dah biasa dengan sushi. Haha. Takde kaitan =p Tahniah jadi orang pertama! =D

    Jon:
    Is that Melanau language?

    Lelaki Dan Bunga:
Oh tak. Saya belum bekerja pun lagi. Kakak saya yang kena kerja ke sana.

    Zex:
Oh. Terima kasih banyak2 Zex. My sister would appreciate this so much. Is the airport still working nowdays? I heard about the air plane too. Ouch. It’s scary. I think she would rather go to Sibu or Bintulu and takes flight from there. Hehe. I browsed through some photos on the net just now. I agree with u Zex. Mukah is very calm and beautiful. Were u working there before? Thanks again for the info. I suppose that less than 3 months my sister will get used to eat sago dengan pisang semua tu. Hehe. Kita tunggu dan lihat je la eh =)

Setakat yang saya kenal, orang Melanau semuanya baik2. Bahasa pun lembut je. Erm. Saya yakin 100% kakak saya takde intention pasal duit.

Saya anti. Kalau boleh saya taknak Kaklong kawin orang sana. Oh. emonya ayat saya~

    salam sarah..

outing ngn kak long minggu lepas, baru citer tentang Mukah. Abg kak Tikah 4 tahun duk sana, tapi ujung taun lepas (2008) baru je tukar ke Putrajaya. So agaknya kebetulan la pulak, “Long” kita 1st posting sebagai cikgu kat Mukah.

Outing dulu, fist word Melanau yang Kak Long belajar adalah ‘bilem’ maksudnya (hitam) coz abg akak digelar ‘Cikgu Bilem’ oleh kanak-kanak Melanau yang nakal.. hehe..

Pepun, moga dipermudahkan urusan Kak Long kat sana. Don’t worry, everything ok kat sana, Insya Allah..
